rebecca & eric (cisco as we lovingly call him) play frisbee with bryan & i. rebecca is from louisville ironically & just moved to nashville for school. they asked if i could do some engagement pictures new years eve weekend & i was so excited to help them out with that. engagement sessions might be my favorite. seeing two people so in love with so much of their lives ahead of them... it's too much fun.

while i was home for my cousin ashley's wedding i was able to fit in an engagement session. for my other beautiful cousin, maria! we have a very large family & i am the second oldest grandchild, so ya'll will be seeing just how large over the next few years!

matt planned out the locations & he did an amazing job. we visited his old stomping grounds where he grew up. each place was more perfect than the last.

as winnie the pooh would say it was a blustery day!

i think this one is so much fun!

matt's late father raised the money for these soccer fields & so i had to get some pictures of them with his plaque. "you know who loves ya" was his quote!

my little cousin, ashley, is married. a couple weekends ago she said i do to a handsome, sweet, sweet man named nick. they were married in louisville, ashley's hometown, even though they now live in chicago :)

they were married in the cathedral of assumption, which is gorgeous! & then everyone had a short skip & hop to the reception at the gillespie. the reception was lovely.

here are a few of my favorites from the day. this was really hard to pick just a few- so many good ones from their special day!!

i showed ashley's mom this picture & she laughed & said "tell them not to stop anytime soon!"

nick had sent a text the night before saying- "see you at the alter!" ashley responded with "yeah, we'll see!" these two are really cute together.

getting her make up done up real nice. most of ashley's bridesmaids are from the north (or at least more north). i walk in to the house to hear her saying "we put our makeup on real thick & our hair real high" in a nice southern accent. it's safe to say everyone had a fantastic day- the mood was playful the whole way through.

& then the dress was on & it was real. ashley looked exquisite.

while doing a few portraits out front, ashley's dad didn't know how else to help with his nerves- so he went for a short ride around the ladies.

ya'll ready for this one? this is nick. my sweet new cousin, with a huge tear down his check as he sees ashley walk down the aisle.

it was a beauuuuutiful ceremony. father domhoff married them. he also married ashley's parents... so it was pretty special.

so awesome.

the party got a little wild after that ;) i love ashley's terrified face.

i'm one of those saps that cries with every video that has the soldiers returning home to their families, pups & life here at home. i want to share in my gratitude, since tears i shed privately aren't showing my appreciation nearly enough.

this past weekend when we were getting ready to go through security at the louisville airport a soldier was in front of us. his wife, little girl, brother & mom were waving goodbye. i started tearing up. what they do for us is so invaluable. there is no way to repay them or thank them enough for what they do. but i'd like to try.

so, in honor of national military family appreciation month i would like to offer a free portrait session to one special military family!

people often ask how i get to travel for my weddings... word of mouth. i shot chris & jessica's wedding in october of 2009. one of jess's bridesmaids jennifer, told her friend sarah about my work. we hit it off & a few weeks ago i had the pleasure of flying out to washington d.c. to document their wedding!

it was a gorgeous day in beautiful venues. and the sweetest couple!

Their church St. John The Baptist, a russian orthodox cathedral, was absolutely stunning.

the ceremony itself was beautiful, too. so many interesting aspects. the best man puts the rings on the couples fingers three times, exchanging the rings each time. three times symbolizes the holy trinity & that everything they do is blessed by jesus.

the couple guided by the priest walks around the center platform, three times.

which wouldn't be too difficult ordinarily, except that a member of the wedding party has to follow while holding a crown over the couples heads!

i love the simple, understated seriousness of this one.

clay, rose & i were all art majors at western together. rosie was my roomie our last semester... they are some of my favorite peops. this day has been in the works for many, many years & i think everyone that knows them believes they're perfect together!

they were married on rose's aunt's property outside of frankfort ky. it was gorgeous! it'd been a rainy week but we got beautiful skies for their big day!

they posted signs so we wouldn't get lost... i still got lost :)~

they chose to have a quaker ceremony & here they're preparing clay's family with the details.

this was the backup location for the wedding in case we didn't get the blue skies... isn't it gorgeous? i threatened to stay forever.

they made all of the beautiful decorations themselves or had close friends help.

rose asked that everyone pick a wildflower & that became her bouquet!

everyone sat around them in a circle. that pile of ruble became the bonfire later that night!

friends & family were allowed to speak during the ceremony & say whatever they were moved to say. it was seriously, the most beautiful, heartfelt ceremony i'd ever been to. everyone cried as they told why they loved them, why they're so happy they're together, etc. here is rose's brother sharing his story.

these two lil birds are getting married next june! we met up a couple weeks ago on her parents farm in indiana to do their engagement session. it was a foggy morning & a pretty good chance of rain. i was hoping they wouldn't cancel because i was excited for a chance to shoot in something a little different!

i absolutely love the photos we got.

my dear friend, brendan, who i worked with at silver bay got married. to a beautiful, wonderful, fellow emp :) it was a beautiful day, at a beautiful place & i feel so lucky to have been a part of it.

has arrived!!! she was born on july 22nd at 3:50am. we did another water birth in our home & everything went beautifully. our midwife, mary, her assistant jen, my mom, & our friend, short jill, (who documented it for us) were all there to help make maya's birth a beautiful experience.

she is so incredibly sweet. i can't put her down. finn loves her & asks to hold her all the time. he comforts her by saying "it's okay baby" when she cries. if i'm not holding her he wants to know "where my maya at?" so luckily, the transition into big brotherhood is going very well.

the four of us are adapting, but maya is making everything so easy- it's like we've always been a family of four. and i love it.

man. i love this session. so many sweet moments...

stephen is from louisville, but we met him here in phx through frisbee. what else? he is married to the beautiful irish louise... i adore her accent. it's unfortunately not very thick :) but just enough that i get giddy! (i've been penpals with a handsome devil & his amazing family since i was nine, so i'm a bit obsessed with that country.)

my baby brother is a husband. so odd saying... err... typing it outloud?! that adorable 11 year old that came down to my room & made me study the driver's manual so i would pass the test! that sweet kid that thought teaching me to hit a golf ball at night with glow in the dark balls would make it more appealing to me, which it didn't, but nice try. he's married!! & lucky boy, to a beautiful, kind woman.

they were married on the 12th of february in louisville.

finn was a stud muffin!!!!!!!!! we were all pretty sure walking down the aisle wasn't going to happen. but some heavy, fancy shoes on his feet & a train in his hand & a mama down at the end of the aisle & magic happens! he very stoicly walked down the aisle, handed johnny the pillow, high-fived him & then gave him a kiss. PERFECT. & then he threw a fit i couldn't hold him & my cousin took him out to the lobby to play.

the music was beautiful.

this whole weekend just worked out perfectly. bryan's second cousin's ana & shawn live in d.c. as well. their baby boy luca was in need of some cute photographs, so, it was a double whammy weekend of baby cuteness overload.

i stayed with shawn & ana in their amazing condo. we eventually woke up & made some breakfast & headed out for our portrait session, but i took advantage of the great light in their condo before we headed out.

what an amazing wedding.

i want to do it all over again but this time i want to be a fly on the wall so i can just watch it's amazingness unfold. i felt like a chicken with it's head cut off. the stress of the maid of honor's speech was looming over my head the entire day & wanting to do a kick ass job on the photography was a new pressure. i usually don't stress taking pictures. i know that every wedding day is full of amazing opportunities for fantastic pictures. and i'm good at seeing them. but that day it was for my little sister & that was heavy!!!

my good friend, shawn poynter, helped with the photography. who am i kidding? i helped him! he did such a great job & i can not wait to see what he captured. it was odd doing both jobs. i feel like as i show you these pictures there are so many holes & there are because i was doing the things instead of taking pictures of someone else doing them!

but for now, i hope you'll enjoy a few of my favorites.

her dress was amazing. it fit her perfectly. not too much frill or frickle. but sexy & unique.

the beautiful bride. she drank several sprites that morning but was in good spirits despite her lil tummy being upset!

steph's bestfriend, steph p, mama & jaclyn learning how to put the hairpiece in. which my good friend jill & i made :)

here's their first glance. steph cracked me up... she walked over to him but stood at a distance & did a little curtsy "like here i am, look at me!" & i love jeff's expression. (here's a little view of the hair piece!)

this awesome mural was right outside our hotel & jeff loves music so i was like "um get your butts over there."

i think my mom took this one! she may have cut some people off, but i'm sure shawn has an awesome photograph from this.

steph is awesome with details. this venue was awesome with details. so the whole thing was awesome. jeff also loves hatch show print. a really cool print making studio that's been around since something like 1920. and happens to be in nashville tn. as luck would have it i happen to be very good friends with one of their head print makers. so i got them in touch with each other & they designed this awesome poster that you see in the middle to be the party favors. they also had them printed on beer cozy's because that's also one of jeff's things. so, to brad- you're amazing. thank you so much for everything!

the flower's were so cool. and steph accented the table with cotton bouquets to match our bouquets!

she requested pictures from a few couples that were important to them to have on display. bryan was not happy that i gave them one of us smooching! tehee.

& now onto the portraits. my favorite. here's my beautiful sister. i love this one.

i absolutely love this one that shawn grabbed. finn was a stud muffin! he had that awesome linen suit on & steph bought him a bow tie to match my dress. g'lord he was knocking the ladies over :)

my dad's parents have this great picture of them looking out from the back of their get-away car on their wedding day. so we really wanted to remake the photo with steph & jeff.

my absolute favorite. i love the way they are looking at each other. seriously. you guys are great together.

stephani being the non-tradionalist wanted to walk down the aisle by herself & have jeff meet her halfway. they wanted to start this journey together. kinda cool. i love everyone's expressions in this photo. look at my mom :)

it was very important to steph & jeff that they get a blessing from their parents. really great moment.

& then if you hadn't noticed there is a bit of a height difference between these two. we schemed a long time ago about having a stool for her to stand on. so when jeff's brother n law said it's time to kiss the bride steph said "one second." bryan brought her a stool & helped her up. i LOVE jeff's expression, like what the hell? no one knew about it, so the whole audience got a kick out of it.

we took a huge group photo!

& then i put my camera down. i had to give a speech & enjoy the reception. which i did in full force. the speeches were great. the dj was way too much fun. & their friends & family made it one hell of a party.

there are lots more amazing photos to come. we've got photobooth ridiculousness. shawn's kazillion killer images. i can't wait. i will let you know as soon as they're available!

to steph & jeff. thank you for letting us all share in your amazing day. it was breathtaking.

several people wanted to see a photo of the quilt that i made them.

i had brad print the poster design on a tshirt for me. i also tracked down the dress that she was wearing at doug & molly's wedding (the night they first were um, attracted to each other, tehee.) & used those two items as the center piece.

( i hired a private quilting instructor to help me since i had no idea what i was doing, just a desire to make it)

the next step was finding cool pieces of fabric to piece together. i knew steph wouldn't want a typical square quilt so we had some fun with it.

jeff's sister, kristi, sent me a couple silver bay t-shirts to include & doug, jeff's brother, got me a penn state t-shirt. mom sent me a kentucky shirt & then i had all the important pieces. their pasts coming together to create an awesome future.

& here is the final product! it was supposed to be a lap quilt but ended up being 4 inches short of a king. man am i bad with math!!!

eric, braden, brinza & bristyn were a blast to hang out with. we spent the morning exploring desert breeze park & i think we got some really cute pictures.

braden & bristyn were very brave & sat on the big odd tree branch.

cathi & i worked at silver bay together one summer. she worked in the hiking/nature center & i think that summer i.... can't remember what job i had. i was so excited when she asked me to shoot her wedding because i remembered her as a beautiful, gracious, kind person with a laid back personality & all those qualities make an awesome bride. and she was.

her sweet , kind & handsome husband, nev, is from south africa, so his family & friends came from afar & were a delight to be around.

i love the story of how they met. cath was meeting a friend at a restaurant but is notoriously late. so her friend striked up a conversation with the two guys at the table next to her. they were deep into conversation when she arrived so they just scooted the tables together & ate as four instead of two. nev was one of the guys. how sweet is that?! man, being late seemed to pay off!!!

they were married on the dock with the lake & mountains behind them. the wind was pretty strong & kept playing with her veil, but it was a fabulous, intimate ceremony. bruce, the chaplan did a fantastic job & several of their family/friends performed songs that were so emotional!

so on to the pictures!

cathi is an aunt. if i had to label her, that title would be in the top 5, amazing aunt. you can tell how much she cherishes them & they cherish her. they surrounded her the entire day, it was adorable. here's her squad helping her get dressed.

do you remember julie & aurora? they were married back in 08. well, john & stacy were guests at that wedding & i told them straight up that if they ever got married - i wanted to be there. they were that much fun. fast forward until this past year & i get a phone call. & bless her, she's a woman of her word. she asked me to shoot her wedding! on a ranch!! in portland!!!

they were married over labor day weekend in the dalles... one of the most beautiful places i've ever been. this couple was SO much fun. silly & happy & they completely enjoyed their day. and their friends were a hoot.

anyways, onto the pictures. here are a few of my favorites from their incredible day!

one of the cutest mother daughter relationships i've ever witnessed.
(the night before at the rehearsal stacy's mom had a mob cake. i was all confused like why are we going to mob the cake? but because stacy & john were having pies instead of cake for the wedding she wanted a cake! they each took turns cutting it with her & feeding/smashing it. too funny!)

they chose to see each other before hand!!! & then we walked around the ranch taking a few photos!

so sweet.

i had walked around the saturday market in portland when i first landed & one of the artist had a booth full of letters printed on photographs. one of them said forever. we started chatting & she gave it to me so I could take a photo of them with it. it's a little hard to read because it's on glossy paper- but i love it.

the wedding was beautiful & personal.

& tear worthy.

& funny. stacy had her dress custom made & she loved the fact that it was lined with a bright, beautiful fabric, so i thought this photo was awesome, not only cause it's floating a bit, but they're so happy.

& now they're married.

the speeches were awesome. i mean, you gotta love it when your brother-in-law tells you to lie (in each others arms), cheat(time or death) & steal(your lover's heart) within your marriage!

& then i stole them for some more portraits during the sunset. yummyness.

these fields of tall yellow grass will make an appearance in my heaven. for sure. so BEAUTIFUL.

are getting married in november! so, we met up to do their portrait session -early, 6am early, but it was worth it since we were melting by the end of it at 8am!

are some of our favorite peops. they've added a new addition to the family since we last saw them. sarah-anne was what, 7 months pregnant, when they moved to santa fe, new mexico. so we missed his birth & they missed finn's.

you might remember this family, from when sebastien was born! sebastien is now the big brother to simon. two adorable little boys. finn had a blast playing with them as we visited.

we did a little portrait session while i was there, before i start off with their pictures- here's one of all of us together.

finn hung out in the ergo during the shoot, which i always wanted to try while he was younger, but it's definitely not that easy now that he's older & would rather be running around :)

theresa is one of my dearest friends from highschool. she organized her family to be in the same place at the same time so i could attempt to get them in a picture, hopefully several. her brother's are extremely entertaining.

they'd just been on a sweet road trip to yellowstone together, minus matthew, so they had lots of new material to entertain me with.

the day after these two love birds were married we did a lil session. kelly bought herself some cute hiking clothes & we hit a trail! but first we putzed around the cabins- it's such a cute quaint place without trying to be!

my first colorado wedding!! and my kelly did not dissapoint! kelly & i were ceramic majors in college. there were four girls & we spent all kinds of crazy late night hours in the studio making some cool art, having fun & becoming close friends. i know i have a cool polaroid picture of the four of us but can't find it at the moment. but i do have this picture of kelly & i. framed in my studio now.

i got to meet mark before they were kelly & mark. they came out for the ceramic convention in phx a couple years ago. kelly knew he was something special & we had a few conversations about it then. fast forward many months later & i get a phone call "um, can you shoot my wedding -junish?" happy dance proceeded.

they were married on june 25th in carbondale colorado. (kelly & i took a summer class at arrowmont in tn. she has stayed in close touch with one of our instructors, peg. the wedding was at her house up in the mountains- it was beautiful.)

so without further ado, the pictures:

they had their rings made by a friend. they were really cool!

they made so many of the elements to their wedding... kelly made this & mark picked the design.

mark made the cups/vases & kelly made the little frames. marks mom made the lil pieces of tablecloth! it all looked simple but beautiful.

this lil beauty shows up in kelly's work quite a lot. her mom always said she'd get her one when she got married!!!! it made a debut on her candy table- those sour strips were SOUUUUUUR.

i photographed this beautiful family when soul was only 5 months old. my has he changed. i mean, he's adorable. in personality, his sweet little face & that fabulous hair!!!

there's a new addition due any day now. mama's been having contractions for about two weeks so her body is gearing up!

luckily the babe held on till i got back from all my travels so we could do a belly session. you'll meet this babe soon enough because they're doing a "soon after the birth" session as well!

there's something about this photograph. i love the parents hands on the belly- i still cherish my pictures of this time.
joronda looks incredible. she's only gained weight in the round thing protruding from her stomach- she's a stick everywhere else!
mateo is such a great dad.
this is my absolute favorite image from the shoot. i love that sweet face & that tender hug.

neil went to grad school with bryan. the boys played flag football while sandy and i would go in search of swimming holes & find thunderstorms :)

they were just friends at first but that soon turned to a crush & eventually 3.5 years later turned to marriage!!!

they were married in dunkirk, new york by the light house. it was a beautiful day with a few showers that morning, but nothing that could keep this bride from smiling like a cheshire cat.

are married!!!!!!

they were married at vincenzo's & man was that meal amazing. they transformed one of the dining rooms into a beautiful reception area. i was very impressed.

i loved how relaxed mary & kirk were the entire day. they both got ready at her parent's house & then they had a first moment alone outside. it was a first time that i've had a couple greet everyone before the ceremony & it had a cool feel to it!

were married in may... it was a beautiful, intimate wedding. i looooooooove the portraits we got.
