nashville.

is a pretty cool town.

i flew out for allison & paul's wedding a few days early so i could
hang out with friends: my college roomate rose mary, brad who i've been
friends with since grade school, & mr. claybob. we were all art majors
together. i had such a great time seeing them -makes me miss school
all over again.

brad works at hatch- a company thats been around since 1870 something making
music posters. they're pretty famous in nashville & so it was a special
treat that i was able to hangout there for an afternoon & watch the process.

detail.
<span class=

another friend from college, ms. nieves. rosie, nieves & i were obsessed with outkasts' shakeitikeapolaroidpicture song. i even made us shirts that said so.
<span class=

rose works at the frist- an amazing art museum. i hung out there all morning, but
no pictures because it's not allowed. which was really unfortunate because i saw a
really cool scene in one of the galleries. it was in the black & white room- all of the
work was in black & white & two nuns with white gowns & black habits were
standing on either side of a beautiful b&w abstract painting with the light shining
down perfectly in between them... it was one of those images that will stay ingrained in
my brain as a shouldawouldacoulda. damn why didn't i?

here's rosie & clay being cute.
<span class=

my dear friend deshawn & her daughter qwyn drove down to hang out with us for the
4th of july. here's qwyn's little pup jack.
<span class=

we laid low & celebrated with a camp fire, hot dogs, asparagus, & smores!
<span class=

deshawn & i enjoying a beer.
<span class=

gwyn's first smore!!! she loved it. we experimented with different kinds of chocolate. our
favorite was kit kat & adding strawberries is a nice touch.
<span class=

isn't she adorable?
<span class=

fun lil group shot.
<span class=

brad & i. we are in the middle of creating a new logo for me! so stay tuned for exciting
new announcements.
<span class=

lil self portrait.
<span class=

life with your artistic friends is wonderful. i could do this. i could live in nashville &
hang out with these kiddos full-time.
<span class=

atlanta

or shall we say hotlanta. which was pretty accurate. i had a great time non-the-less. my
best friend sarah bought a house. that's a huge stepping stone into this world of being an
adult & i wanted to be there to help.

i only brought my point & shoot & i really didn't take many pictures but here are a few
from my lil vacation. bryan had a great time with his family & said that our sweet lil evelyn
is walking & absolutely obsessed with the swimming pool. if she saw it she had to go in or
a lil tantrum would be thrown. tehee. i wish we could all retain that ability to get what we want!

i stayed with my aunt barb & uncle don, who you met in my new york post, most of the
week. i lived with them one summer, so it's my home away from home.
<span class=

their grandchildren were with them the first few days so we spent lots of time at the park
& the pool.
here's molly & i on the spinny-wanna-make-you-barf-thing.
<span class=

here's a lil family shot.
<span class=
aren't they adorable?

miss sarah & i. our first night in her new house!!!
<span class=

i didn't take any pictures during my birthday dinner unfortunately, much too interested
in my sangria for that but here are a few of the view from the park tavern, one of my
favorite restaurants.
<span class=

those in attendance: sarah, barb & don, erin & andrew. my sister had erin buy me some
flowers so she was kinda there too!
<span class=

on friday sarah & i, her brother richard & his fiance kristen & some co-workers of theirs
went to six flags & rode all of the roller coasters. i haven't done that in years & my neck is reminding me why! it was pretty hillarious though.
i loooooooooove these swings.
<span class=

& then sadly i left sunday morning at the butt crack of dawn. i am not a morning person,
at all, so i took this picture of the sunrise from inside the plane because it was special.

new york city.

i love this city & there was a time near graduation that i really thought
i'd be moving there. it's got a great rhythm & i love allllll of the culture
that's around every corner. i have good friends that live there & have
showed me the best of the best every time i've visited. but this visit was
special because now my sister lives there! with her boyfriend, jeff, one of
those great friends i just mentioned.

now this trip was a few days longer than the d.c. leg but it felt even crazier.
we had so many people to see: stephi & jefe, maria & carson & then my aunt
& uncle from atlanta were randomly in town too.

we had a great time, despite the incredible humidity! we hit a couple bars
friday night, breakfast at the clubhouse in central park the next morning &
then we headed to long island for the belmont. we are horse people & having
missed the derby we were not going to miss a triple crown victory!!! unfortunately,
as you probably know big brown did not win, although i really respect his jockey
for pulling him back. this year doesn't need another horse tragedy on the books.
so we lost all of our money, except bryan who bet on denis something or another
and won enough to pay for most of our drinks :)

here are a few of the pics from our trip.
*since it was so hot, i didn't really take many- so this is a very random display of
a few of them!*

steph & jeff in front of the the most amazing desert place i know.

spending the morning casually walking in central park. next time we go we want to
ride the tandem bikes through it!

we took the ferry out & back again so bryan could see the city.

maria, carson, myself & b.

we left carson's apt sunday night. bryan headed off to the airport & i headed to steph's
apt where my aunt, my sister & i got ready for our big evening! we got all gussied up &
walked a few blocks to the movie theater to see dunn dunn dunn.... sex in the city! i got
to see it while in the city which made it even cooler!!

i loved it. everything about it. i think they did such a great job with it! i felt the full
range of emotions that those girls are always able to get out of me, frustration, excitement, annoyance & happiness. i left feeling very fulfilled. two seconds after we walked out my
uncle called & asked if we wanted to join him at a lounge for some drinks so i threw out my
arm & hailed us a cab! it was so much funnnn! i was like carrie. all dressed up & in heels-
no less. so of course we ordered cosmopolitans. several rounds & then we called it a night
& slept happily ever after. corny, i'm sorry. but it was a goooood night.

the next day i did a lil photo shoot with my aunt & uncle in steph's apt which is all white
& filled with card board boxes since her guests arrived the day after moving in! i didn't
have much to work with, but i think we got some cute ones!

barbara, is my most cherished role model. i lived with them one summer in college-
the only summer i didn't work at silver bay. she is my mom's oldest sibling of 11. i've
always had a special relationship with them & was so glad to see them, finally after 3
years of missing each other every time one of us visited ky.

barb wanted to do the shoot because she is on the steering committee of Circle of Sisters
& needed a good photo. this is an amazing organization that is helping women in need.
please click on the link above if you're intersted in hearing more about it.
Photobucket

my uncle don...
is without a doubt the most considerate, kind, handsome, loving man there is.
Photobucket

they are so sweet together. loving. fun. & supportive.
Photobucket

my favorite one.
Photobucket
that night barb & don took us to see the ballet performance don quixote. it was very
beautiful. i would definitely recommend it.

on tuesday i was able to explore the city while everyone else was working. my
favorite thing! it's such a huge city & to me i love the feeling of being such a tiny
party of it. i spent a good bit of the morning in strand, a local bookstore with an entire
floor of art & photography books. it was a good thing we didn't drive there.

Photobucket

& then i met up with barb & don & we did the soho thang. such a cool part of the city.
Photobucket

it was so hot that we decided we deserved mojitos & margarita's for lunch. the big
cups, no sissy little ones for us. these beautiful spider mums decorated our table.
Photobucket

just another naked lady.
Photobucket

& then. i ventured over to B&H, which is heaven for photographers. i was all ready
to buy some fun new toys, but this is what i saw when i arrived.
Photobucket

oh well. i guess someone was looking out for me.

new york, until next time. which now that steph lives there will probably be sooner
than later :)

#80 check!

woohoo! it feels soooooo good checking things off your list & now one more thing, visiting c u b a, is accomplished. its one of my bigger items, so i'm pretty excited. it's also one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. so i jumped on it, albeit with some hesitation.

my travel companions were joe & johnny, two great musicians. johnny is in school at asu with bryan, both boys are working on accomplishing some higher educatione' -to impress their ladies, of course. so, i've known him & his wife, yindra, for a couple years now (& they are fantastic people.) yindra is from there & they met several years ago while he was studying abroad.

when he mentioned this trip to me a couple months back the idea started churning in my brain until it was this awesome real life thing. my bank account was emptied a lil bit, but my life is much, much richer because of the awesome people i met, the experiences i shared & the country i was able to explore. & let me tell you, this world is fantastic in all of it's differences to us, the united states of america.

i was there for one week. we were able to travel inland & visit yindra's family where they roasted a pig for us. i spent a morning with her father's god-parents that farm the land with sugar cane & tobacco, their number one cash crop. we even got to use a machete & cut some of the sugar can down! it was very tasty. the rum, i won't speak so highly of. EEK. i'm not so good with that.

we traveled there for the international jazz festival. the boys obviously went to hear some famous jazz heroes & i tagged along because it's been a dream of mine to see this country ever since i saw a photo book by david alan harvey on c u b a. the amazing light, the colors, the people, the buildings. all of it called my name as my classmates & i laid on the grass back on western's campus & dreamed of the amazing things we'd get to document. & it was important to me that i go before things changed & a mcdonald's or starbucks was on every corner.

i took over 3500 pictures in 6 days. i went to at least 10 concerts. had one massage :) ate a lot of rice & pork (they are such good cooks!), drank several beers. gained 5 pounds even though we walked A LOT. danced a little. but, mostly oogled over how beautiful the place was & how sincere the people were. yindra's family & friends made it possible for us to stay with them in their apartment, fed us, got us into the concerts with backstage passes to most shows & showed us an amazing time.

every person welcomed us in their home warmly & when we left they always asked how soon it would be until we could return. (they also made us promise on several occasions to vote for barack, since he has already said he'd end the embargo.) they were so kind. they greet you every single time with a kiss to the right cheek. i wish we greeted that way. if, by any chance, i randomly put my cheek to yours & make a kissing sound. it's my c u b a n greeting to you!

okay, no more words are needed, because the pictures will do the rest. it's about 15 minutes long -so get comfy!!!

i'm back!

has it really been over a month since i've posted. i don't believe it. that's crazy. where did janaury & now febuary go?

the only week i can account for is last week. i was out of the country, visiting an amazing country. i'm still editing the pictures- so they are coming soon! and you'll want to see them because this place is amazing. i'll give you one lil sneak peek, now!

Photobucket

oh wait, i remember a few things that i've yet to blog about, now. i hosted a birthday/shower party for sebestian! we had bryan's old college team out for a tournament, which means 15 stinky frisbee boys sleeping anywhere there was floor space! we had a super bowl party... so there were exciting things in january :) i'll have to get those posts together.

i also have some really fun photo shoots coming up, 2 this weekend, so stay posted for that.

fun pics from mn

(i only need 1 more state to have visited 3 new ones & then i can check off #20 on my 101 list. i wonder which other new state i'll visit? hmmmm....)

my sister, stephani & i flew in a day early to play... we had so much fun exploring three new towns: st. paul, stillwater & hudson, wisconsin. each town had its own funkyness to it. ( i love finding new small towns with unique, non-chain stores) we bought 2 beautiful vases from a ceramicist in stillwater - carl erikson! check out his work, he's fabulous & we both splurged on a new dress... not like us at all :)

here's a picture of stephi & me after the wedding, celebrating my birthday:

here's a picture of our fancy schmancy bathroom at the lowell inn- which is where all the wedding guests stayed. It was a really cool unique hotel in stillwater.

this is most of the silver bay crowd... we all worked at the camp together in college.

here's sissy rae doing the "dancing queen" with jefe' (doug's brother).

stephi & i with dougy...

& i wanted to post two more pics from the barbecue the night before the wedding...

awwww... they are so cute!

there's so much more to that area, i didnt have any time to do outdoorsy things... so i've decided i'll definately be back. plus katie & clint emailed & said they want me to come back once they get pregnant again- so hopefully soon i'll get another weekend to photograph & explore. let me know if you're interested in a portrait session & i'll keep you posted about when i come for a visit!
