stephen & sarah; washington d.c. wedding photographer

people often ask how i get to travel for my weddings... word of mouth. i shot chris & jessica's wedding in october of 2009. one of jess's bridesmaids jennifer, told her friend sarah about my work. we hit it off & a few weeks ago i had the pleasure of flying out to washington d.c. to document their wedding!

it was a gorgeous day in beautiful venues. and the sweetest couple!

love the shoes.

sarah getting ready in a closet in their church :)

Their church St. John The Baptist, a russian orthodox cathedral, was absolutely stunning.

love this:
"The Sacrament or, more properly, Sacred Mystery of Marriage does not unite a man and a woman. Rather, it is the Church's recognition of a union that God has already begun to work in their lives." (thanks wikipedia!)

the ceremony itself was beautiful, too. so many interesting aspects. the best man puts the rings on the couples fingers three times, exchanging the rings each time. three times symbolizes the holy trinity & that everything they do is blessed by jesus.

the couple guided by the priest walks around the center platform, three times.

which wouldn't be too difficult ordinarily, except that a member of the wedding party has to follow while holding a crown over the couples heads!

i love the simple, understated seriousness of this one.

married!!

& then we headed to the strathmore mansion for the reception.

here are a few portraits that we were able to squeeze in before dinner was served!

i love that look you're giving her stephen!

the wedding party looking awfully dapper.

so beautiful.

i must thank felicia & her team with celebrations made simple -the night flowed smoothly thanks to her!

sarah & stephen... what a wonderful day. thank you for allowing me to be a part of it. i wish you many, many years of red lipstick kisses!!
